Egypt: Mummies Also Sunbathe

Where to go in winter? Egypt, of course! And in autumn or spring? Again, Egypt! It's always sunny, warm, and safe, with beautiful hotels and all-inclusive packages year-round. Egypt is akin to pages from history and art textbooks springing to vivid life.
If pharaohs and pyramids seem cliché to you, just wait until you feel like a tiny ant next to them. Egypt's 7,000-year history captivates and astonishes even the most sceptical of travellers. Surprisingly, hotel prices in Egypt are quite affordable.

Holiday Amidst Historic Marvels

Some might say that Egypt is merely a puppet country, seemingly crafted just for tourists. Especially those who spend their time in Egypt lounging on the shores of the Red Sea. To these sceptics, it seems fitting to hand out a 5th-grade history textbook right on the aeroplane. After all, Egypt owes its fame not to the 'all-inclusive' programs, but to its rich history, legendary tales, and globally renowned architectural marvels:The Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, Cairo, Alexandria, or Luxor.

How deep into the pyramid can you venture? How did those massive stone blocks end up so neatly stacked upon each other? Who chipped off the Sphinx's nose? What happened to the Lighthouse of Alexandria? Some of these questions might be answered by a guide, but there remain mysteries that are yet unsolved.

Legendary Cairo and Alexandria

Many consider Cairo, the capital of Egypt,to be too noisy and dirty. Given its nearly 30 million people, including suburbs, and the constant buzz of traffic,it's no wonder Cairo isn't exactly a haven of tranquillity.Сairo, the largest city in Africa, might not be the ideal destination for a tourist. But it's the chaos that makes it special and memorable.Stroll through the old city, be sure to visit the Egyptian Museum, and buy something at the famous Khan el-Khalili market.Don't forget to haggle! For Egyptians, it's a national sport. They will likely come out ahead, but the noisy and emotional experience is part of the package.Ancient Alexandria, unlike Cairo, captivates with its dignity and style. It is home to the world's most famous ancient library and a gigantic lighthouse, recognized as a wonder of the world.

Red Sea and Blue Sky

The true stars of Egypt's tourism are Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. These resorts boast dozens of all-inclusive hotels, water parks, long sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters, and everything you might need for an awesome vacation. They attract independent travellers, couples, and families with children. Besides lounging on the beach, there's snorkelling and diving by the coral reefs, desert excursions, dance parties, and much more.

Local residents

Tour guides also have a trove of amusing modern legends. For instance, one guide recounted a tale of a child who spotted a "sunbathing mummy" on the shore. This 'mummy' turned out to be a local woman who had draped dark sheets over her body and face to protect herself from the sun.The locals are generally friendly and kind... especially when they jokingly offer to trade a female family member for two camels. If you learn to handle the persistent vendors, you can turn everyday interactions into an entertaining experience. Don't hesitate to ask them about local life. You'll discover much more than what the guides tell you.

Sharm-El-Sheikh
Sharm-El-Sheikh

Sharm-El-Sheikh

Visitors arriving here are greeted with a clean urban and beach environment, a safe atmosphere, proper service, and everything else necessary for a flawless vacation. Sharm is simultaneously both child and adult-friendly.

The underwater world is in ultra HD. Colorful fish seen on the screens of TV shops can also be observed in the sea just by standing on the pier, but the underwater experience is in a league of its own. Here, snorkeling simply must be tried!

It's definitely worth visiting Naama Bay beach, the old town, and the mosque, as well as taking a walk in the Hadaba area. The entire Sharm area is large enough to discover something new every day... and get your steps in.

Sharm-El-Sheikh

Hurghada

"Take me under a palm tree!" exclaims every other Estonian, having endured two months of darkness and rainy gloom. This beautiful place by the Red Sea began as a small fishing village declared a tourist area in the 1980s. Diving centers full of colorful fish, water parks for children, sailing, and safari rallies abound.

Definitely worth checking out is the stunning El Gouna, known as the Venice of the Red Sea due to its artificial islands. Other notable centers for experiences include Makadi Bay, Al Mamsha, and Sheraton.

Compared to Europe, Hurghada is quite affordable. But not "cheap" in the negative sense of the word. Hotels are being built rapidly, so they are relatively new.

Sharm-El-Sheikh

Cairo

This bustling metropolis with its 30 million inhabitants can overwhelm a Nordic accustomed to the rustling of pine forests.

Take a moment in one of the Nile riverboat cafes, sip on Egyptian coffee, breathe deeply, and boldly immerse yourself in the millennia-old streets. The exotic aromas and loud gentlemen of the Arabic old town's narrow streets will prepare you for what awaits in the world's oldest market, Khan el Khalili.

While in Cairo, you simply cannot overlook the towering Giza Pyramids, the most famous triangles in the world. These colossal wonders, dating back four and a half thousand years, simply must be seen up close and touched with your own eyes.

Sharm-El-Sheikh

Luxor

Welcome to the world's largest open-air museum - Luxor.

Both the Karnak and Luxor temples enchant with columns, monuments, and hiding places dating back up to 4000 years, adorned with stories, images, and symbols of the Egyptian kingdom. If these walls could talk ..., they would caution visitors against excessive photography, while also recommending Instagram stories be taken at sunset, as the most magical results are achieved with shadows.

You can also admire the sunrise by hot air balloon or cruise the all-inclusive Nile by boat. And do not buy any sarcophagus, despite the merchants' assurances that it would look good in your living room.

Sharm-El-Sheikh

Alexandria

Just a few thousand years ago, questioning Alexandria would've seemed absurd. It was the famed Mediterranean port city, Egypt's grand capital, and Hellenistic culture's epicenter, crowned by the world's largest library. Today's rumors of Alexandria's metropolis demise are exaggerated. "Only" five million live here.

Along the seaside Corniche promenade, explore the mighty Qaitbay Fortress, replacing the Pharos Lighthouse, built with its stones.

After the Library of Alexandria, Kom El Shoqafa Catacombs, and Montaza Palace, dive into nightlife buzzing in cafes.
